Honourable chair, distinguished delegates,
I speak on behalf of the World Medical Association which represents 9 million physicians
worldwide.
Offering 1 billion more people better health and well-being can only be achieved by strengthening
health systems, supporting the health workforce and increase healthcare financing and social
protection. Health systems should be built on a strong integrated primary health care system
including health promotion and prevention.
We ask Members States to use digital health to supplement traditional ways of managing health and
delivering healthcare, governed by clear legal frameworks based on the principles of medical ethics,
privacy and confidentiality, and the supervision of the risks of inappropriate use as outlined in the
WMA Declaration of Taipei.
A comprehensive global framework to guide the governance of health data across health systems
would enhance the data sharing across countries and with other parties.
Thank you
