WHO Executive Board 150th
session
Item 11 – Immunization Agenda 2030
Distinguished delegates,
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, there has been dramatic regression in many immunization indicators.
Modeling indicates that an estimated 51 million future deaths would be averted by vaccination
between 2021 and 2030, if coverage targets are met. Children, despite being the group with the least
risk of severe illness from COVID-19, unfortunately bear a severe impact on their health from
indirect consequences.
We call on Member States and WHO to act urgently to ensure equitable access and distribution of
vaccines to all and to use the momentum generated by political and societal interest in COVID-19
to strengthen vaccine delivery infrastructure, improve data systems, and enhance disease
surveillance. The pandemic must be used as a trigger to build public and political support for the
strengthening of immunization programs worldwide to reverse the declines in coverage and to re-
energize progress towards Immunization Agenda 2030 targets.
Thank you
