Dear Sir or Madam,
Invitation to the 72nd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe,
12–14 September 2022, Tel Aviv, Israel
I have the honour to convene the 72nd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC72), in
accordance with Rule 4 of its Rules of Procedure. Delegates are invited to meet from 12 to 14 September in Tel
Aviv, Israel.
As you know, the Regional Committee is the highest decision-making body of the 53 Member States of the WHO
European Region. Ministers of health and high-level dignitaries meet once a year for a three-day session to
shape political commitment and action to improve the health and health conditions of the people living in the
Region.
This session of the Regional Committee, the first to be held in person since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,
aims to support the further implementation of the European Programme of Work, 2020–2025 – “United Action
for Better Health in Europe” and to strengthen its impact at country level.
On this landmark occasion, I would like to invite you to personally attend the session and take part in the
discussions, which will address some priority health areas that will steer the work of the Regional Office in the
coming years, such as empowerment through digital health, health promotion through behavioural and cultural
insights, and access to effective, novel, high-priced medicines in the WHO European Region.
For your information, I enclose the draft provisional programme for RC72, which was discussed in detail at the
Twenty-ninth Standing Committee of the Regional Committee for Europe, at its third session, 7–8 June 2022.
As in previous years, NSA representatives will have the opportunity to deliver an oral or a written statement
under the main technical items on the agenda. For NSAs attending in person there is also the possibility to
participate in the exhibition space and details of the relevant contact point should this be of interest can be
found in the attached documentation. There will also be briefing session for NSAs on Sunday 11 September in
the afternoon at the Regional Committee venue. Detailed information about statements, accessing the
exhibition areas, the NSA briefing session on 11 September, practical information about the official registration
for RC72 and the conduct of the session will be sent to you in the coming weeks.
Given that September will still be high season in Israel, I urge you to secure hotel accommodation for you and
your delegation as soon as possible. With the kind support of our host, the Ministry of Health of Israel, rooms
have been block-booked at the conference venue, Hilton Tel Aviv, and in selected hotels nearby until 28 July. You
