Dr. Yoshitake Yokokura graduated from the Kurume University School of Medicine in March,
1969, and worked for the surgery department of the University. After that he worked for the
surgery department of the Detmold Hospital in West Germany for two years (1977-79) He has
been President of the Yokokura Hospital since 1990. He was elected as President of the Japan
Medical Association in April 2012. He also served Council Member of the World Medical
Association (WMA) from 2010 to 2016. He serves as President of the WMA (2017-18) and
President (2017-18) of the Confederation of Medical Associations in Asia and Oceania.
