All Physicians should be kept informed on avian Flu Threat, says WMA

Representatives of the world’s physicians today urged governments to engage with national medical associations to prepare for the possibility of an avian flu pandemic.

In an emergency resolution at the World Medical Association’s annual general assembly in Santiago, Chile, physicians from more than 40 countries said that the WMA would work with national medical associations, the World Health Organisation and others to track the progress of the disease and prepare the necessary measures to minimize its impact on the global human population.

Dr Yoram Blachar, chair of the WMA Council, said: ‘It is essential that all doctors throughout the world are kept informed about the developments of this disease.’
