THE WORLD MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, INC.
WMA Dues Categories 2019
The Council of the World Medical Association has advised the Secretary General that the dues
assessment be changed from a flat rate of € 2.00 per declared member to a rate based on the World
Bank’s classification of the Constituent Members country’s economy. It was decided by the
General Assembly in Moscow in 2015 that the rate is increased by 5% from 2016, 2,5% from
2018, and 2,5% from 2020 in order to maintain the financial stability of the Association. And
this plan was modified by the ExCo in April 2018 that:
1) no increase in subscriptions in 2018 and 2019 for the NMAs in categories a, b and c and
2) a plan to review and to make a recommendation for 2020 at a later date, based on financial
projections. The 2020 recommendation will not exceed the previously agreed 2,5% and be
less.
The dues rate for the year 2019 are as below:
Category A Low income economies € 0,40 per member
Category B Lower middle income economies € 0,95 per member
Category C Upper middle income economies € 1,60 per member
Category D High income economies € 2,15 per member
These categories are provisional under the requirement that the annual dues payment for each NMA
in Categories A, B, or C remain at least the same amount as the dues paid by such NMA in 2005,
with a corresponding increase in the number of members. And the new baseline was approved by
the General Assembly in Montevideo.
This information is according to World Bank Country Classification 20181
based on Gross
National Income (GNI). Bold indicates a change of classification.
