Annual meeting of the Australian Medical Association
(23-25.05.2014) This week I was hosted by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) at their Annual meeting. Among other things, I was fortunate to witness the enthusiasm and passion with which the AMA goes about its business. The address by the Minister of Health followed by that of the Shadow Minister of Health was a clear manifestation of the straightforwardness and seriousness with which AMA takes its responsibility of influencing the national health agenda of Australia.
The climax for me was to witness the WMA Chair of Council, Dr. Mukesh Haikerwal recieve from the AMA, the much coveted AMA Gold Medal awarded every 2-3 years to a physician who the AMA leadership considers to have contributed most to the Profession both nationally and globally. After recieving the award from the AMA President, Steve Hambleton, Dr. Haikelwal said “there is nothing that gives a physician greater satisfaction than recognition by his or her peers”.
Well done, Mukesh!
