An invitation to provide critical commentary on the World Federation for Medical Education
Standards for Postgraduate Medical Education
Following revision of WFME standards for basic medical education to a principles-based format
(see https://wfme.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/WFME-BME-Standards-2020-1.pdf), we are
now embarking on updating the standards for postgraduate medical education to a similar format.
Because postgraduate training varies so much across the world, we would like to take comments
and advice about the strengths and weaknesses of the current (2015) publication, before we start
the revision. On the basis of this, we will prepare revised standards and send these out for wide
consultation.
You can find the current standards at:

We would be most grateful if you could:
1. Read the current postgraduate standards.
2. Comment on which standards are appropriate and useful in your context.
3. Comment on which standards are either inappropriate or not useful in your context, and
please say why.
4. Suggest areas that are currently missing.
